Bonnell's annotation clarifies a range of textual and editorial issues, and sheds new light on Boswell's processes of selection and deletion.

Thomas F. Bonnell is professor of English at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, and the author of The Most Disreputable Trade: Publishing the Classics of English Poetry, 1765–1810. He edited Volume Three of the Life of Johnson manuscript edition.
